Difference between CBC and hemogram

difference between CBC and hemogram

Though we common people do not understand the medical terms, many of us have given blood for medical tests. The CBC and hemogram tests are also blood tests; these terms often confuse people. Although they are very similar, there is one difference between them. We are discussing that difference between CBC and Hemogram in this article.

What is CBC?

Complete Blood Count (CBC) updates your blood and overall health. CBC measures and counts your blood cells. It helps healthcare providers check a range of disorders and health conditions. It also shows if there are side effects due to some medications.

Your blood sample is collected by your provider and sent to the laboratory. In the laboratory, multiple tests are done to examine your blood cells. These tests help your provider to monitor your health.

What is a hemogram test?

The hemogram is a set of tests that includes complete blood count (CBC) and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR). It measures different components of blood, such as red blood cells (RBCs), White blood cells(WBC), hemoglobin, hematocrit, and platelets. This test helps check overall health and detect diseases like anemia, leukemia, and infection.

The ESR test determines the degree of inflammation of the body.

How are CBC and Hemogram different?

The key difference between Complete Blood Count and Hemogram test is that CBC does not include the ESR test. On the other hand, the hemogram test consists of both CBC and ESR tests.

Apart from this, CBC and hemogram are very much similar. In short, CBC and hemogram tests are the kinds of blood tests that help evaluate your blood cells and, in turn, your overall health. And they have one dissimilarity. For more information regarding blood tests, visit us at Grace Laboratory.
